Peace of God
Sermon by Mrs.Kavitha
There is always so much spoken about Peace. The dictionary defines it as freedom from disturbance or a state of tranquility. Jesus said to His disciples “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”(John 14:27). “My peace” here means the peace that Jesus had. It is the same Peace that He is offering.
Peace in the worldly sense could be temporary and based on circumstances and situations. It is dependent on various factors like health, wealth, relationships, natural disasters, the country’s economy etc. But this conditional peace is not sufficient. In the current situation where the entire world nations are battling a pandemic, this peace is not enough. Apart from the virus, the anxiety and depression is proving fatal. But the peace of God is permanent. God has promised that “His kindness shall not depart nor His covenant of peace be removed” (Isaiah 54:10)
Having said that, the human mind still is surrounded with fear and anxiety that is based on something which is not in our control. Do we have this anxiety? Maybe less, but yes. So, how to overcome?
· Trust in the Lord who is our Rock
· Not to worry about the future like the pagans because our Heavenly Father knows our needs (Matthew 6:32)
· Be assured that our future is in His safe hands. And His plans and timing are always perfect.
· Let our requests be known to God (Phil 4:6)
. Learn to live one day at a time without brooding much about the future as His mercy is new every morning.
· Live in obedience to God as fruit of righteousness is peace (Isaiah 32:17)
When I reflect on the sermon, I get reminded of a story – A little girl is seated in an aircraft enjoying the flight. There is a sudden turbulence for which all the passengers go panicky. After few minutes, when the aircraft stabilizes, a co-passenger who noticed the little girl’s calm and composed behavior, asks her the reason behind it. She replies “My father is the pilot and He is taking me home”. It all depends on our relationship with Him, the Prince of peace. Let us abide in Him.
